David Burtka will headline the Champs for Mott Culinary Gala on May 20.

Celebrity chef, actor and U-M alumnus David Burtka will host the CHAMPS for Mott Culinary Gala on Saturday, May 20.

The event — which will be held in the Delta Airlines hangar at Detroit Metropolitan Airport — showcases the flavors of Michigan’s exciting and creative food scene while raising critical funds for innovative pediatric research, the clinical trials unit and the Congenital Heart Center at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

Michigan Medicine faculty and staff are invited to purchase tickets at a discounted rate of $250 (maximum two).

Guests will be able to pursue highly sought after, hard-to-find experiences through silent and live auctions, and dance the night away to tunes from the highly-acclaimed Dan Rafferty Band.

They will also hear from Burtka, a Michigan native who obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts at U-M and is known for his acting roles in theater and on television.

He graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, Calif. with a culinary arts degree and trained under chef Mario Batali at his award-winning restaurant BABBO and with award-winning chef and author Gina De Palma. Burtka is a firm believer in sustainable food — from the market to the table.
