A little thanks goes a long way during National Recognition Month
Gracias. Danke. Merci. Obrigado. Arigato. Cheers! No matter what language you say it in or how you say it, “thank you” is one of the most simple, yet powerful phrases in the world. So powerful, that it’s often used when recognizing others.
March is National Recognition Month and a good reminder that thanking your colleagues should be a part of your everyday routine.
Recognizing the contributions and efforts of colleagues and peers is critical to creating an environment at Michigan Medicine that leads to innovation, increased productivity and increased engagement. Valuing and acknowledging employees’ everyday contributions and perspectives also makes the organization’s work more meaningful.
Research shows that recognition helps to create a more positive workplace and culture, resulting in increased levels of organizational effectiveness, including financial performance, patient satisfaction, productivity and employee engagement.
Michigan Medicine’s 2016 employee engagement survey showed that recognition is an area where the organization has opportunities to improve and impact workplace culture. The more coworkers and colleagues feel recognized and engaged, the better quality of care patients receive and the higher their satisfaction.
In that spirit — and in honor of National Recognition Month — Headlines will be highlighting (and thanking!) colleagues who make a difference every day, as well as teams who have improved engagement scores in their areas.
