The U-M Japan Student Association invites the entire university community to a Day of Remembrance in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066, which led to the opening of internment camps for Japanese-Americans.

The event — which runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Rackham Amphitheater — is open to all Michigan Medicine faculty, staff and students.

Featured speakers include Mary Kamidoi, a former internee at Rohwer internment camp in Arkansas, and Henry Tanaka, son of wrestler Hisao Tanaka, who was interned at Camp Manzanar in California. Their aim is to shed light and foster open dialogue on the discrimination that Japanese-Americans endured during World War II and its effects on later generations.
