Q&A: Our change to Michigan Medicine
It’s been a week since the organization announced its new name — Michigan Medicine. In that time, faculty and staff have submitted a number of questions regarding the name change and what it means.
Here are some of those questions with answers to help clarify:
Q: What is Michigan Medicine?
A: Michigan Medicine refers to the university’s academic medical center, which includes all of the patient care, education and research areas.
Q: Why did the organization change its name?
A: Michigan Medicine is intended to better reflect the three-part mission of the integrated academic medical center. The new name also better represents the organization’s unified leadership structure.
Q: Who belongs to Michigan Medicine?
A: Michigan Medicine includes:
- Hospitals
- Health centers
- U-M Medical Group
- U-M Medical School
- Shared services
- U-M Health (affiliates, such as Metro Health and MidMichigan Health).
Q: Has the organization’s relationship with the university changed?
A: Absolutely not. Michigan Medicine is the university’s academic medical center and the “Block M” is its greatest brand affiliation.
Q: How will my work be impacted by the change?
A: It won’t be. Your day-to-day work will stay exactly the same as we continue to provide world-class patient care.
Q: So how do I update my email signature and other materials?
A: In order to keep your work profile up-to-date, you can find resources and guidelines on updating your email signature, PowerPoint presentations and other valuable content on the new and improved Michigan Medicine branding site. The site replaces the old DIY website.
Q: Where did the logo generator go?
A: The logo generator is no longer available as each department is unified under the Michigan Medicine logo, meaning they should use the new logo followed by their department name. See the example to the right.
Select groups will retain their own logos. Those groups are listed here.
Q: What should we do with materials that include the old name?
A: Business cards, letterheads, signage and other printed materials will be updated only once the current supplies run out or need to be replaced. Exhaust your current materials before ordering new ones.
