Flu season is here: ‘Masks On’ policy now in place

December 20, 2016  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources,

Flu season has arrived at UMHS — and so has the mandatory “Masks On” requirement. Any employee who has not yet received the flu vaccination must wear a mask in all patient areas beginning today, Dec. 20.

Here’s what you need to know:

Who needs to wear the mask?

Any student, volunteer, faculty and staff member who did not get a flu shot, received an exemption or submitted a declination must wear a mask in all patient areas for the entirety of the flu season.

For all staff covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the provisions of the Flu Vaccination Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) shall apply.

Why do I need to wear a mask?

The mask will help ensure that our patients, families and colleagues stay safe from the spread of the flu this season.

When do I need to wear the mask?

The mask must be worn once you enter any patient area at UMHS.

How long is the “Masks On” policy in effect?

The policy will be in effect until the end of the flu season. You will receive communication declaring flu season over and that masks no longer need to be worn.

Where can I get a mask?

Masks are available at all UMHS main campus entrances, at designated “flu stations.” In areas not located on the UMHS campus, masks will be provided by your manager.

Where can I get my flu shot?

Occupational Health Services offers free flu vaccinations for UMHS faculty and staff every Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  Please be advised that OHS will not be open between Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 2.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping the flu in check!
