Class helps clinicians move beyond readability formulas
An overreliance on readability formulas and readability scores is a common mistake health care professionals make when writing materials for patients.
That’s why all health system clinicians are invited to participate in the Patient Education Center’s class, “Beyond Readability Formulas: Writing Clear and Effective Patient-Centered Educational Materials.”
The class will take place on Friday, Dec. 16 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.
This class will focus on proven principles and guidelines of writing in plain language. Through the use of real-life examples, participants will learn to recognize elements that hinder understanding, and what language, layout, formatting and design methodologies aid learners at all levels of health literacy comprehend and retain information about their health.
