Reminder: Keep the flu in check at a free UMHS flu fair
The clock is ticking — free flu fairs will be held for two more weeks at UMHS.
Flu fairs are being held across the health system campus, making it easier than ever for you to receive the vaccine and keep our patients, families and employees as safe as possible.
Under our health system’s policy, all students, volunteers, faculty and staff must get their annual vaccine by Dec. 1, 2016 or receive an approved exemption or submit a declination. Those with an approved exemption or who submitted a declination will be required to wear a mask in patient care areas or where patients may be present for the entire flu season. Medical and religious exemption forms are available online and must be submitted to Occupational Health Services by Nov. 1.
MNA/UMPNC and AFSCME bargaining unit members should refer to their union contracts and memoranda of understanding pertaining to flu vaccinations for additional information. Per the MOUs, MNA/UMPNC and AFSCME bargaining unit members may decline the vaccination for medical, religious or other reasons. To see the MOU for MNA/UMPNC employees, click here. The MOU for AFSCME employees is available here. Any MNA/UMPNC or AFSCME bargaining unit member who wishes to decline the vaccination, please click here to submit a declination.
If you get the vaccine at your doctor’s office, pharmacy or any other location outside of UMHS, submit flu shot documentation to your department’s compliance contact so they can record it and give you a sticker for your ID badge. Please be aware that, in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, flu mist is not an acceptable alternative to the flu vaccination.
