Life is sweet: Annual ice cream social and researchpalooza a success!
Working here at UMHS was literally (and metaphorically!) sweet on Wednesday, as faculty, staff and students were treated to an ice cream social.
The annual appreciation event celebrating organizational accomplishments and the everyday superhero employees behind them included singing, dancing, games and, of course, ice cream. In recognition of the hard work and dedication of the health system’s employees, UMHS leaders served up sundaes with supremely super flavors like Villainous Vanilla, Black Widow Butter Pecan and (what else?!) Superman.

Employees also took advantage of a photo booth with their coworkers, sang karaoke, shot hoops at the Batman Basketball booth, met a U-M storm trooper and visited with various vendors from UMHS departments and the Ann Arbor area.
Researchpalooza saw thousands of curious visitors who lined up to learn about various research activities currently ongoing across the health system and medical school.
“People have been stopping by constantly, wanting to know what we’re doing and how we can help them,” said Robert Lyons as he worked the DNA Sequencing Core booth, telling guests about the types of DNA analysis his department can provide to UMHS researchers. “Meeting all these people interested in medicine and research has led to some really neat interactions.”
Other employees came prepared for their own fun. Pattie Postel, who works in the executive vice president for medical affairs and dean’s office, brought a bubble wand and created giant bubble streams to help enliven the atmosphere. “I’m bringing joy because it’s just a joy to work here!” Postel said.
In case you missed Wednesday’s festivities, check out the photo gallery of your UMHS colleagues. If you have your own pictures to share, be sure to upload them to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #UMHSLife. If you do, you’ll be entered into a contest to win cool prizes like movie tickets, UMHS swag and more!
Thank you to everyone who participated. See you next year!
