CIRHT leader recognized by foreign minister

Ethiopia’s foreign minister, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, recently honored University of Michigan’s Janet Hall for the institution’s significant contributions to improve women’s health in Ethiopia through the Center for International Reproductive Health Training (CIRHT).

Hall, who is the chief department administrator of U-M’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the Executive Director of CIRHT, received a certificate of appreciation and merit to recognize CIRHT’s critical role in establishing this first Ob/Gyn residency program in Ethiopia.

The award was presented during the residents’ recent graduation ceremony at St. Paul Millennium Medical College.

The program is the result of years of collaboration between leadership and faculty at St. Paul and CIRHT. CIRHT was made possible by a $25 million grant to the U-M Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2014. The center helps train health professionals in critical, life-saving reproductive health services not generally accessible to many women in low income countries by integrating comprehensive family planning into medical education.
