Class: Writing Clear and Effective Patient-Centered Educational Materials
All health system clinicians are invited to participate in the Patient Education Center’s class “Beyond Readability Formulas: Writing Clear and Effective Patient-Centered Educational Materials.” The class will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 23 between 3 and 5 p.m.
An over-reliance on readability formulas and readability scores is a common mistake health care professionals make when writing materials for patients. This class will focus on proven principles and guidelines for writing in plain language. Through the use of real-life examples, participants will learn to recognize elements that hinder understanding. Participants will also learn what language, layout, formatting and design methodologies will help learners with all levels of health literacy comprehend and retain information about their health.
