Making a Difference: May 2016 Highlights

June 16, 2016  //  FOUND IN: Our Employees,

Employees across UMHS continue to make a difference through their hard work and dedication. Recognizing the contributions employees make to UMHS helps our team to become more motivated, drives better teamwork, and gives each individual a sense that they are an integral part of achieving our organizational goals.

You may not always realize the impact you make during each customer interaction (both internal and external), but it’s a vital part of the relationship-building process that the UMHS team uses to engage with patients and each other. Here are a few examples of team members who made a difference last month:

Patient Recognition

My father recently had triple bypass surgery with valve replacement at U of M. I want to thank all the staff of the CVC ICU and Dr. Haft for the excellent and skilled care they provided. My father’s health was complicated before his heart attack and we are thankful for all of the hard work the entire CVC ICU team did to keep him alive. I work in a hospital and have spent time in ICU’s and your team was professional, skilled, and compassionate and fought hard to improve dad’s status on an hourly basis. The support of the lift team, nursing techs, respiratory and rehab therapists was exceptional. Everyone worked hard as a cohesive team. A special thanks to nurses Zach, Dana, Chris, Stella, Jackie, and so many more; we feel blessed that dad was put on your unit!

Survival Flight

Recently, I brought my daughter Abbie into work for Bring Your Child to Work Day. We took the tour of Survival Flight and had a wonderful time meeting the staff (Abbie was excited to see the pilot was a redhead too!). Little did we know that two week later, Survival Flight would be bringing Abbie’s father in for an Aortic Aneurysm and Dissection. When I had to tell my daughter the sad news, she didn’t miss a beat to say that her father was in good hands and that the Survival Flight staff and everyone at U of M would be taking good care of him. Thank you for giving us such a great experience on our tour of Survival Flight and for taking care of Abbie’s father when he was sick.

Staff Recognition

Floyd Brinley, M.D., Internal Medicine

Dr. Brinley recently came to clinic on a vacation day to see patients as another provider had been off for several days.  He wanted to make sure patients were seen and not rescheduled again. Dr. Brinley is admired and respected by his coworkers and sets a great example to us all and embodies U of M principles of patients and families first, and he definitely “makes a difference” in our clinic.

Anna Lomax, Patient Financial Counselor, Revenue Cycle

Anna deserves a bazillion (making a difference awards) for everything she does and continues to do for us in billing. Her willingness to assist in any situation is admirable. Anna’s pleasant and cordial demeanor makes her a special employee for her coworkers, and more importantly to her customers whom she so diligently strives to please with successful results. She consistently delivers service in a timely and friendly fashion. Anna is greatly appreciated and greatly deserving of many accolades. She’s the best!
