Robert Neumar, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of emergency medicine, recently delivered the keynote address at Huron Valley Ambulance’s annual EMS Recognition Awards Dinner on May 18.

Neumar, who is a founding member and co-director of the SaveMiHeart coalition, spoke to the audience of roughly 200 about the importance of first response in cardiac emergencies.

“Our goal, through the work of SaveMiHeart in partnership with Huron Valley Ambulance, is to double survival from sudden cardiac arrest in the state of Michigan by [the year] 2020,” Neumar said. “If we succeed, 500 additional lives will be saved every year.”

His remarks were especially appropriate, as several of the evening’s awards were directly related to heart health and safety.
