Community Benefit Contributions

June 10, 2016  //  FOUND IN: News

For years, our faculty staff and medical students have shown their commitment to improving the health of our community by providing programs and services for  free or at a low cost. Our employees actively spend hours to care for and promote the health of the poor, underserved and underinsured.

These efforts are categorized as “Community Benefit” (CB). Between now and July 15, 2016, UMHS departments should submit reports for services they provided to the community during fiscal year 2016 (July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016). The reporting form can be downloaded on the UMHS Community Benefit website.

The UMHS Office of Community Benefit, in collaboration with many departments, pepares the annual Michigan Health and Hospital Association Community Benefit survey. The survey highlights contributions of hospitals to their communities across Michigan and provides an opportunity for UMHS to assess its investment in advancing community health. Reporting Community Benefit is an important factor in the continuation of our tax-exempt status, and new IRS requirements under the Affordable Care Act make the demonstration of our community service more important than ever.
