You’re invited: New pediatric psychiatric unit open house
The faculty and staff of the new Nyman Family Unit for Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Wellness invite all UMHS faculty and staff to an open house of their new unit.
Date: Monday, March 21, 2016
Time: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Location: 8th floor of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital & Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital
The unit will be moving to its new home on the 8th floor on April 4. The 16-bed unit features expansive views of Nichols Arboretum. A gym, classrooms and a full program of activities will allow kids to be kids while receiving treatment. Each room includes family space, reflecting the important role family plays in the healing process. In addition to multiple spaces to accommodate group therapy and activity, the unit also features several relaxation spaces for patients and families to practice self-care skill development.
The unit’s location within the children’s hospital allows more direct access to a full cohort of pediatric medical staff for the benefit of both medically acute patients, as well as the staff who care for them. “A safe, warm and pleasant healing environment is so critical to recovery from psychiatric disorders,” said Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Director, Ben Biermann, MD, PhD. “The Nyman Family Unit will allow us to treat our patients in a beautiful, state of the art setting designed to foster mental wellness and promote healing.” Be sure to check it out!
