“Nurse” your career: Attend recruiting fair

March 15, 2016  //  FOUND IN: News,

Don’t forget, the UMHS spring Nurse Recruiting Fair takes place on Sunday, March 20. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet hiring managers from many hospital departments, learn about available positions and start their journey on an exciting new career path.

That’s what happened to UMH 5B1 RN Louise Crisostomo, who landed her job shortly after attending the same event one year ago.  Check out her story below.

HH: Why did you choose nursing as a career path?

LC: I chose this path because there are numerous opportunities for professional growth and advancement. It also teaches you how to adapt to change, which is a constant in the healthcare industry. Nursing is a career that is mutually beneficial, both for nurses and the lives of the people with whom they engage. I feel that nursing is a skill that you can apply to almost anything in life.

HH: What was your experience at the UMHS Nurse Recruiting Fair?

LC: Staff members who worked the event were very accommodating, even to people who registered late. They welcomed everyone the same. It was very professional, and each unit’s station was informative and enticing; I couldn’t help but visit almost every station at the event!

HH: How was the UMHS Nurse Recruiting Fair different and/or better than any other work search experience you’ve had?

LC: This event was a lot better than other job fairs I’ve attended. As soon as I walked into the area where all the unit stations were, I lost any feelings of hesitation to approach anyone. It felt like being welcomed to a community – not a workplace. It was very lively. The first thing you see when you attend is a video presentation, which is motivational and engaging.

HH: What do you love about your job?

LC: I love that I am continuously learning, expanding my skillset, and developing relationships with my colleagues and patients. Nursing takes the phrase “part of the healthcare team” to a whole different level of heart and soul. I truly feel valued and my leadership team reinforces with me and my coworkers that we’re essential to patient care. I’ve found myself a second family who is supportive and encourages me to reach the best of my capabilities.

HH: Would you recommend job seekers attend this fair and why?

LC: Definitely! If people want to be a part of an organization whose mission is to make a difference, UMHS offers many opportunities to get involved and create a positive impact. I’ve met so many diverse groups of people and their view of life has helped me to appreciate it even more!
