Hussain named to ASCO board of directors

Maha Hussain, M.D., FACP, FASCO, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

The board is comprised of oncology leaders who are elected to positions reflecting various specialties within the oncology field.

Hussain is Cis-Maisel Professor of Oncology, and professor of medicine and urology at U-M. She is an internationally renowned clinical researcher and an expert in genitourinary cancers, particularly prostate and bladder cancers. Her research efforts are focused on the development of novel therapeutics integrating scientific advances into clinical trials for prostate and bladder cancer. Hussain has been involved in many ASCO committees, including the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee.

She is one of four new board members elected. The four-year term begins in June.

Also in June, Daniel F. Hayes, M.D., FASCO, Stuart B. Padnos Professor in Breast Cancer and clinical director of the Breast Oncology Program at the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center, will take over as president of ASCO.
