A Leader’s Journey in Healthcare: Gary Kaplan of Virginia Mason speaks Friday

The Department of Internal Medicine has scheduled Dr. Gary Kaplan as its Grand Rounds speaker on Friday, Oct. 16.

Dr. Kaplan is Chairman and CEO of the Virginia Mason Health System in Seattle. Virginia Mason has been a pioneer in adapting the Toyota Production System for healthcare.

Dr. Kaplan is an alumnus of the U-M Medical School and also serves as chair of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and of the National Patient Safety Foundation’s Lucian Leape Institute. He is a member of the National Advisory Board for the U-M Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation.

His talk, titled “A Leader’s Journey in Healthcare,” will begin at noon in Ford Auditorium in University Hospital
