Learn how you can respond to a workplace fire

When responding to a fire anywhere at the U-M HealthSystem, remember R.A.C.E.

Rescue

• Rescue patients, visitors and staff first!
• Articulate “Rescue” as the first response in RACE

Alarm

• Shout Code F
• Call 911
• Pull the fire alarm

Contain the fire

• Close doors and windows
• Clear corridors
• Turn off oxygen (Clinicians only)

Extinguish the fire if you have been trained and it is safe to do so

Evacuate if it is not safe to extinguish the fire
